complexion and brown eyes. The form had him certify that he
revoked his allegiance to George V, Kink of Great Britain and
Ireland (if he ever had any) and that he was not an anarchist
or a polygamist.
EMIG Ned departed on a ship from Queenstown, Ireland. In the
passenger list of the Saxonia, he lists his home and place of
birth as Graiguenamanaugh, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland. In the
Declaration of Intention for citizenship he lists his
birthplace as Borris, Co. Carlow, Ireland.
IMMI Ned arrived in Boston on the vessel Saxonia. The passenger
list stated that he was 26 years old, five feet ten inches
tall, single, and was a farmer in Ireland. He was going to
stay with his brother James Joyce at 27 Meade Street,
Charlestown, Mass. Ned had $25 with him when he arrived in the
US. He was met by his sister, Ellen, who had been there
several years. She made a practice of meeting all the ships
from Ireland and taking home any poor soul who had no place to
go, and finding jobs for them.
